"A screenwriter's tips on how to outline a TV series" - RynoRyder's Vlog...

I'm taking the screenplay I most recently completed and the director and co-creator and I are turning it into a TV series for streaming service, i.e. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc.

I've never really seen a screenwriter's process before and so I wanted to share it with all of you.  I will continue to vlog and document my process and I continue to work on the story.

"How to make your script stand out" - RynoRyder's Podcast - QUICK TAKES

This is a clip from the podcast show I recorded with screenwriter and instructor, Phil Eisner.  Here, he talks about a "cheat" writers can use to help get the attention of a Hollywood script reader.

"Finding the Inspiration to be Creative" - RynoRyder's Vlog - Ep. 035

My musician friend, Christopher Lewis, got back into the studio after a 10 year hiatus from recording.  I documented the day for him, and for you guys.  I ask him about why go back to it now and what inspired him to write 30 songs in only a month!

Christopher is a really great guy who I hope you all will see more of in the future.  As always, thanks for coming along and joining my journey.

"What it takes to be a writer in Hollywood" - RynoRyder's Podcast - Show...

As you'll see during the intro, I was going back through some of my old videos and realized that a podcast with my friend Jon Veles, something fucked up and it only posted about the first 25-ish seconds of the interview.

SO, I found the raw video and audio and decided to re-post it for you all.

Jon is a working writer, currently on TV for ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat."  I think there's some really valuable stuff in this interview because Jon and I talk about the differences between writing for film vs. TV, and also dive into our processes as writer's and how we come about making a story.

"Story vs. Spectacle" - Audio Commentary - Short Film, Apocalypse: The ...

Here's the audio commentary for my third Apocalypse short.  As I explain in the video, I drew my inspiration for this one from director, Sam Mendes.

I breakdown how quickly I work on the fly when I see what I want, only doing 1-2 takes for a shot.  I compliment the very talented, Micah Parker on his additions to the character and to the scenes.  And, I forget the young acctresses name.  :)  Sorry, Savannah!

The second part of the video I go on a rant talking about Story vs. Spectacle and show an example of one piece of work I believe helps explain the difference.

I'm really trying to figure out how to portray what I mean when I tell people of a movie or a screenplay, "There is no story."  In my head, it makes perfect sense, but I'm realizing how untangible the word "story" is, so I want to try and explain it better to the audience when I talk about it.  Please enjoy!

"How to outline a scene for a screenplay, beat-by-beat" - RynoRyder's Vl...

I'm currently writing a new screenplay and I am trying to document the various steps I go through to do it.  I want to showcase the amount of work that goes into crafting a well-told and entertaining story.

So far I've finished my rough outline for each scene, now I break down each scene into "beats."  This is so very important, because if a scene isn't entertaining, then you will lose the audience.  It's a laborious process, but I think 100% neccessary in order to tell a great story.

I would say 99% of "screenwriters," whether aspiring or working, don't put this much time and work into outlining their story beforehand, and that's why 99% of screenplays are garbage.

"Thisis how I outline my screenplay" - RynoRyder's Vlog Ep. 029

I haven't written anything from scratch in about one year.  When I am able to get into that zone and start writing something new, it is the absolute happiest place I can be, mentally.

The problem is, I've been trying to value my time more to not just keep writing "for free".  But, when inspiration meets opportunity, sometimes you have to jump and go all in.

That's what I've started doing and that's why I wanted to create this vlog for you all today.  I want to show you all the process of how my brain works and how I create and build stories.

"Trying to tell a story without a script." AUDIO COMMENTARY - Short Fil...

Here's another commentary for my short film, "Apocalypse:  The Drunk."

My purpose behind putting these pieces of content out is to give any insight and perspective to ANY aspiring filmmaker, artist, creative, just to let you know a bit about what goes through my head and the reasons behind the choices I make, artisticly.  Even if sometimes those choices don't neccessarily work out in the end.

The important thing, is to not judge or blame yourself from them, but to learn and move onto the next.  To quote a menotr of mine, "You're only as good as your last at bat."  :)

Please enjoy!

"How to make a short film with zero budget." - AUDIO COMMENTARY by Write...

Been talking about doing these for a while now and finally decided to make one.  Because I got such a good feedback about me posting the different audio commentaries for my feature film, EVIDENCE, I thought people could gain some value by me doing an audio/video commentary for each of my short films I have on my channel.

You can't get more guerrilla than this one.  We shot during "magic hour" and only had about 20-25 minutes to film everything to keep the look we were going for.  There were literally 4-5 people, cast included, on set that day.  We rehearsed and rehearsed and then when the time was right, we got the shots.

This is probably my favorite of the three shorts, although technically not the best.  But, I love the grittiness and dirt of not just this story, but the character herself.

Look forward to more of these commentaries soon.  Thank you for watching, and please comment your thoughts below and share this video with friends.  Thanks!

"Persistance is the key to this business..." - Writer & Filmmaker - Ryno...

I wanted to make a short little vlog to give you all an update on things.

Working back at the bar, yes, but also have things going on in the film world.  I guess, my biggest point for this one is persistance.  It's at the foundation of why I am documenting my journey as a filmmaker.  My fear is that if any other filmmaker, young or old, gets any sense of success or even the slightest possability of "making it", that the crash on the back-end when it doesn't happen, could be catasrophic.  And I mean, life ending.

It's a chess game.  And to be great at chess, you have to study it constantly and you have to lose more than you win.  If you PERSIST with that mentality, you will achieve what you want.  And this is coming from someone who is still chasing, but I can see the path as clear as I can see my hands on the keyboard as I type these words right now.  Start executing.

"Happy New Year!" Lunar Eclipse - 1.20.2019 - As photographed in Topanga...

These are pictures from a Lunar Eclipse that happened last night.  I was inspired and so I grabbed my camera and did some photography.

I'm not a photographer.  I'm understand it all, but I just don't posess the technical aspect of it, but I believe I know WHAT to photograph and I DO have a good eye for composition.

This was shot on a Canon 7D and tried several different "exposures" to get some different looks and then I slapped it together on Premiere and threw some sound on there, provided by a wonderful group called Pink Floyd.  ;)

Enjoy it!

"This is ME not being afraid of judgement by others," - RYNORYDER'S VLOG...

The point of what I'm doing and want to give to the world is showing them that life can be hard.

I know EXACTLY what I was built to do and what I WANT to do forever.  That just happens to be in an industry that is brutal, ruthless, cynical, un-apologetic, and filled with LIES.

I can't stand by and watch people lie to themselves and/or others anymore.  Too many of you are being held captive by it.

I have nothing, and I want nothing.  I am just going to continue to put myself out there to every person on the planet, in hopes I can impact or reach at least one of you.  If I accomplish that, I'll die happy.  :)

Shout out to the Wachowski Brothers/Sisters for having the same amount of courage I am trying to find and to give.

If you consume this piece of content, I urge you to share it with others in your community.  Let them judge me, so that you can have a barrier against their OWN judgements so that you can find happiness and are then able to point the blame toward me.  I'll take ALL the arrows.  Thank you.
